Animal Facts And Pictures Biography
Like Christmas, Easter, Halloween, New Year’s and other holidays of this world, St. Valentine’s Day is another attempt to “whitewash” perverted customs and observances of Kemetian (Ancient Nubian Egypt) and the Ancient Mystery Metaphysical System of KMT and the Tree of Life, turning them into pagan gods and idols by “Paganizing” them.

As innocent and harmless as St. Valentine’s Day may appear, its traditions and customs originate from two of the most sexually perverted pagan festivals of ancient history: Lupercalia and the feast day of Juno Februata.

Celebrated on February 15, Lupercalia (known as the “festival of sexual license”) was held by the ancient Romans in honor of Lupercus, god of fertility and husbandry, protector of herds and crops, and a mighty hunter—especially of wolves. The Romans believed that Lupercus would protect Rome from roving bands of wolves, which devoured livestock and people.

Assisted by Vestal Virgins, the Luperci (male priests) conducted purification rites by sacrificing goats and a dog in the Lupercal cave on Palatine Hill, where the Romans believed the twins Romulus and Remus had been sheltered and nursed by a she-wolf before they eventually founded Rome. Clothed in loincloths made from sacrificed goats and smeared in their blood, the Luperci would run about Rome, striking women with februa, thongs made from skins of the sacrificed goats. The Luperci believed that the floggings purified women and guaranteed their fertility and ease of childbirth. February derives from februa or “means of purification.”

To the Romans, February was also sacred to Juno Februata, the goddess of febris (“fever”) of love, and of women and marriage. On February 14, billets (small pieces of paper, each of which had the name of a teen-aged girl written on it) were put into a container.

Teen-aged boys would then choose one billet at random. The boy and the girl whose name was drawn would become a “couple,” joining in erotic games at feasts and parties celebrated throughout Rome. After the festival, they would remain sexual partners for the rest of the year. This custom was observed in the Roman Empire for centuries.

Whitewashing Perversion

In A.D. 494, Pope Gelasius renamed the festival of Juno Februata as the “Feast of the Purification of the Virgin Mary.” The date of its observance was later changed from February 14 to February 2, then changed back to the 14. It is also known as Candlemas, the Presentation of the Lord, the Purification of the Blessed Virgin and the Feast of the Presentation of Christ in the Temple.

After Constantine had made the Roman church’s brand of Christianity the official religion of the Roman Empire (A.D. 325), church leaders wanted to do away with the pagan festivals of the people. Lupercalia was high on their list. But the Roman citizens thought otherwise.

It was not until A.D. 496 that the church at Rome was able to do anything about Lupercalia. Powerless to get rid of it, Pope Gelasius instead changed it from February 15 to the 14th and called it St. Valentine’s Day. It was named after one of that church’s saints, who, in A.D. 270, was executed by the emperor for his beliefs.

According to the Catholic Encyclopedia, “At least three different Saint Valentines, all of them martyrs, are mentioned in early martyrologies under the date of 14 February. One is described as a priest at Rome, another as bishop of Interamna (modern Terni), and these two seem both to have suffered in the second half of the third century and to have been buried on the Flaminian Way, but at different distances from the city…Of the third Saint Valentine, who suffered in Africa with a number of companions, nothing is further known.” Several biographies of different men named Valentine were merged into one “official” St. Valentine.

The church whitewashed Lupercalia even further. Instead of putting the names of girls into a box, the names of “saints” were drawn by both boys and girls. It was then each person’s duty to emulate the life of the saint whose name he or she had drawn. This was Rome’s vain attempt to “whitewash” a pagan observance by “Christianizing” it, which God has not given man the power or authority to do. Though the church at Rome had banned the sexual lottery, young men still practiced a much toned-down version, sending women whom they desired handwritten romantic messages containing St. Valentine’s name.

Over the centuries, St. Valentine’s Day cards became popular, especially by the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. These cards were painted with pictures of Cupid and hearts, and meticulously decorated with lace, silk or flowers.

I might be accused of being a speciesist if you were to read in my other post about my thoughts on drinking goat's milk (from a companion animal goat, leading a natural life, and not being harmed or having it's children harmed by me consuming a small amount of her milk)

so that made me think, if i'm okay with consuming goat's milk if the above circumstances are in place...then am i therefore okay with consuming "women" milk or cheese if it was available?

and i think i would, if i enjoyed the taste of it...and if it was being given to me by a healthy, willing female...

so that lead me to think of cannibalism...as a new topic i'd be curious to hear input on...i guess i think that eating humans is just as weird as eating animals...but if i was starving and all that was available was a dead human...why shouldn't i eat it? have you ever read or seen the movie: Alive? it's a true story of 16 people who survived for 72 days in the Andes by eating their comrades who had died in the plane crash, since they had no other food...

so what does vegan philosophy say about eating animals to survive starvation? or even eating humans to survive, if there is no other alternative...i might be accused of being a speciesist if you were to read in my other post about my thoughts i also sang from the pit of my stomach (a tense stomach) the way kurt cobain said he did, and the combination of these techniques made something i can be happy with. can't wait to do this to an aria!

so here's my thought: enough of this italian language fascism. all languages are important and tasty, but the route to that experience comes through one's own native language. there are so many accents in this country! ren woods singing "aquarius", or jollie holland singing "lakes of ponchartrain", and if you listen to mathieu chedid singing "belleville rendezvous" in english through his french, he makes the english words so interesting through his intimacy with them.

how are you going to dig into some verdi recit. without having done the same in your own vernacular?

some american operas make this possible, even if we don't take advantage of it. how many times have you heard an opera singer sing summertime as if it was french? i know i know, it's way up there, that's gershwin's fault. when mozart started writing singspiel, i'm sure his singers felt like they were singing an italian opera in german, which they were, but because of their persistence, wagner was eventually able to write something that took advantage of the german literary and song tradition and was still opera, and even extended the resources of opera. when tchaikovsky wrote evgenii onegin everyone called him an italian, but if you listen to galina vishnevskaya sing tatiana, she sounds like a contemporary russian, not someone singing in a foreign language.

i would say bernstein's candide is a european opera with english words, a good start. stephen sondheim, also good. hair and west side story... those don't take full advantage of our opera heritage, much less the developments of modernist orchestral writing, but they're authentic social commentary, which is completely necessary, and they also use many of our american musical resources - electric guitars, native uses of the voice, american dances... what could we do now with the resources that we have?! dj's and banjos!

back after breakup
i've been droning. i live in brooklyn in a room like a practice room. i found a mirror on the street and i lost my will to sing schoenberg so i match pitch with songs i used to hear on the schoolbus radio and i sing sa and pa and ni.

chris and i broke up. i've been crying for a long time.

i'm still trying to figure out the life/work thing. i reread Air Guitar by Dave Hickey, which makes me feel like capitalism, or at least mercantilism can be a field for... transgression? either that or living in new york is making me feel like maybe i could... play along?

then again, blasphemy! i guess i'm not suppose to say that i always hear more music coming out of the pj's than out of the conservatories when i bike by. just saying. it just seems like the people who have been creating american culture for the past 100 years have been only marginally associated with capitalism.

you know, tony conrad wrote some really beautiful little songs. so weird!on drinking goat's milk (from a companion animal goat, leading a natural life, and not being harmed or having it's children harmed by me consuming a small amount of her milk)

so that made me think, if i'm okay with consuming goat's milk if the above circumstances are in place...then am i therefore okay with consuming "women" milk or cheese if it was available?

Domestic Animals Pictures With Names Biography
Over the years I have read many accounts of animal intelligence.
Working in a veterinary hospital, I do see my fill of people refusing treatment or care for their pets because: "It's just a farm dog" or "It's just a cat."
There are many days that statements like these really bug me.

Being a scientific minded person, I have sought to find a way that we can understand how animals think and communicate through books and shows, etc. What I have read and what I have experienced leads me to believe that animals are much more intelligent and capable of thought and feeling than many give them credit for.
Some may argue that the use of tools is what separates us from our animal ancestry - however I've seen the footage of chimpanzees useing sticks to get termites out of mounds for food.
Well, a few nights ago, Sean and I saw Macu our Bronze Wing Pionus playing with her toy bottle cap (I swear, I've bought her way more expensive toys, but she looooves plastic bottle caps from sodas). Then we noticed that she was using the toy as a tool to scratch the places on her head she can't normally reach with her foot.
Not only was it amazing, but adorable!
So take that all you people who think that animals can't think or don't have intelligence!
I caught a picture of her here doing it, but she hates the camera and dropped the bottle cap the minute the flash went off.It looks to me like he has been tought to "copy" this image. but hey, you can see he is particular about his line, and goes over them twice to correct faded colour and such..
So the elephant is clearly interested in "getting it right".

My 7 year old and I watched this clip, just before she went to school. It saddens me to think that if she tells in school that "elephants can paint pictures of elephants" she will be told that it isn't true,- and that no animal can paint..- It wouldnt be the first time that what she learns here at home is completely negated in school..
It pains me to send her to school at all Best information on animal totems isn't (in my biased view) from so called "new age" sources, but biology books, animal histories, and your own observations.

Animals as teachers work (again, in my personal opinion, not academic opinion) because they make us look at ourselves in particular ways. not unlike archetypes, zodiacs, etc. If i tell someone who *isn't* acting in a traditionally cancer manner, that he or she is a cancer, he or she might then see where in their lives, they are pushing those aspects of their world aside. I'm sure if i looked, I could find aspects of all 12 zodiacs in me, and could "nurture them".

So, when I work with groups of people trying to get in touch with their inner totems, i really ask them to open up their imaginations, and see what comes to them. Prior to the group meeting, i've filled the "space" with pictures of animals, books and mags about animals (and not just 'cool' ones like cats, bears, snakes, but also crabs, lobsters, fleas, larva) which stimulates their subconscious.

I also keep carvings of animals around, so people can pick them up without noticing they are doing it.

Then, we do dream or guided meditations, and try to let the subconscious help guide in whatever they've seen or touched that resonates with them.

then we read about our animals for a half our or so, and talk with small groups about what we found. things we needed to learn, reasons why this or that animal would be "guiding" us at this point in our life.

Pet Animals Pictures For Kids Biography
Being the person that I am, I feel a very stong connection with any living thing. Whether it's a bug or a dog. I always feel like I should save an animal if I feel that it is in distress. My cat, Maliq loves to kill chipmonks and everything else. Any time that I see him getting sometimes I immediately run outside and scopp him up and let the animal go. But, I have learned that most times it is best to let him finish killing the animal if he has already hurt it because it is best for him to kill the animal than to let it suffer.

I just got back from a walk a bit ago where I heard a bird chirping and noticed it was on the pavement and that it was young and couldn't fly. I was with two kids and my 16 year old sister who is very opposite of me. My initial reaction was to try and pick it up and then I don't know... look online how to help. Immediately my sister says" you care too much about animals". And then a man heard what was going on and says don't mess with it it's probably abandoned and birds have disease. So I just left it alone. I got back home and started to cry because I knew that I didn't do what i wanted. I went back with a towel to try to find it and it was gone. What disgusts me more than the fact that this "artist" (psychopath) though of this and did it.
and more that this is considered "art" and what it means for real artists
and more than that artistic organizations acclaimed the work.
and even more than that the gallery (sociopaths) allowed it to happen

is that people watched this and DID NOTHING...that not even ONE person who saw this thought of feeding the poor dog, giving him water even if they didn't have the balls to rescue him. No one even thought of helping him...This to me says a lot about the people of Honduras.

that to me is MUCH worse than one individual would be psychopathic enough to do this, and that fucked up artists would support it, but what about all the patrons!!! they did nothing...they let the dog die!

Based on this, I blame the people of Honduras MUCH more than I blame the artist.
As of now, I am never going to Honduras or signing one more petition to help Honduras workers/peasants... ALL of Honduras is DEAD to me.Being the person that I am, I feel a very stong connection with any living thing. Whether it's a bug or a dog. I always feel like I should save an animal if I feel that it is in distress. My cat, Maliq loves to kill chipmonks and everything else. Cute Animated Pictures Biography
Schopenhauer appears to have helped shape and influence a number of "aesthetic-attitude" theories. Edward Bullough advances one such theory (Levich 1963: 233-254). His "psychical-distance" theory introduces the concept of psychical distance by displaying the experience of enjoying a natural phenomenon. He invites us to consider how enjoyable certain aspects of a fog at sea can be despite its potential danger. He writes: Distance is produced in the first instance by putting the phenomenon, so to speak, out of gear with our practical, actual self; by allowing it to stand outside the context of our personal needs and ends - in short, by looking at it "objectively," as has often been called by permitting only such reaction on our part as emphasise the "objective" features of the experience (Levich 1963:235). "Distance", for Bullough, is a psychological state that can be achieved and can be lost. One can experience "under-distancing" and one can experience "over-distancing".

The female nude as she appears in high art is at the edge, resides between these two phenomenon. Because of the way in which she is framed, she has the potential to encourage her viewer to over-distance. Yet, due to her eroticism, she pushes the viewer towards under-distancing. On the one hand, she is represented in such a way as to allow for the aesthetic connoisseur to examine the skill with which she is designed and displayed. On the other, she is naked which renders her outside the proper sphere of artistic appreciation. After all, the naked female body is obscene and can easily entice the viewer away from a position of aesthetic appreciation and distance. The female nude in high art, because of these competing properties, allows for "proper" distance. Derrida refers to the female nude as the "paregon", the border between art and obscenity (1987: 45). The female nude, he suggests, is unsuitable subject matter for artistic pursuit. However, pictorial form and artistic style, subdues the erotic potential of the naked representation. The female nude as she is represented in high art then, is rendered legitimate by rules, restrictions and direction.

The opposition of a serene, contemplative pleasure and a form of unruly, sexual indulgence maps tightly onto the art/obscenity opposition. In high art, experiences are limited to static reflections and these experiences separate art from non-art. Art is separate from pornography due to its intellectual, reflective and contemplative nature. Pornography is bodily, immediate and does not allow for proper distancing. This axiom can be located in Lord Longford's Report on pornography. Kenneth Clark, acting as an expert witness to Lord Longford's committee stated: To my mind art exists in the real of contemplation, and is bound by some sort of imaginative transposition. The moment art becomes an incentive to action it loses its true character. . . . In a picture like Corregio's "Danae" the sexual feelings have been transformed, and although we undoubtedly enjoy it all the more because of its sensuality, we are still in the real of contemplation (1972: 99-100).

In high art, the effects of the female nude on the viewer have determined whether works involving female nakedness are art or non-art, whether they are art or pornography. Art involves the sublimation or transformation of sexual urges and tendencies; however, pornography encourages sexual responsiveness and immediacy. The aesthetic experience is calm, contemplative and reflective, the pornographic experience is urgent and bodily.

II
In the "Critique of Aesthetic Judgement", Kant attempts to separate disinterested aesthetic contemplation from interested judgements of bodily appetite (1911:90). He privileges aesthetic contemplation over judgements of pure and sensual pleasure. However, his critic, Bourdieu, argues that that the pure, contemplative gaze to which Kant refers and defends, is no more than an experience of class-mastery of a cultural ability to interpret formal aspects of a representation and position it within a predetermined cultural context (1984:6). In other words, when one engages in aesthetic contemplation, one merely recognises and confirms cultural power. Bourdieu's aim is to abolish the "sacred frontier" which sets apart legitimate public culture from ordinary tastes and preferences in art and other areas such as fashion, music and sport. He seeks to break down and expose the containing frontiers of high culture and show how power is utilised through cultural consumption. In doing so, he attempts to invert the value relations within the Kantian system. He argues that high culture is only rendered legitimate through its focus on sublimated, disinterested pleasure and its identification of lower, vulgar or venal enjoyment as illegitimate. High culture confers legitimacy on the objects within its domain, precisely through its repudiation of bodily pleasures. In other words, cultural legitimacy involves constraining and structuring the effect of the object or image on the viewer. Cultural distinctions then are made on the basis of the separation of the pure gaze of the connoisseur from the motivated, interested gaze of the cultural vandal. Implicit in Bourdieu's thesis, is the notion that there is no objective basis for determining cultural suitability. In regards to art, cultural distinctions are made through the production of norms of behaviour and expectations concerning the nature of the art object. Those who are in positions of power determine what the suitable responses to art should be. Illicit art is best understood in terms of its deviation from these norms of cultural appropriation. Culturally acceptable art is directed towards contemplation and reflection; illegitimate art or non-art is that which deviates from these cultural anticipations.

III
In the 1970's and 1980's, an art movement known as performance art, emerged (Carlson 1996). Still pursued today, performance art is directed towards expressive qualities of the body and is particularly opposed to logical and discursive thought and speech; it seeks to privilege process and disregard content and product. Although some aesthetic connoisseurs are willing to accept this form of artistic expression as legitimate, there are many contexts in which this style of artistic presentation is considered to be outside the realm of the aesthetic. Some performances are viewed as clearly off-limits, non-art, bodily and obscene. "Post Porn Modernism", a contemporary performance piece by Annie Sprinkle, is considered by many art-world connoisseurs to be gimmicky, pornographic, inferior and therefore non-art (Scneider 1997: 53). During her confronting performance, Sprinkle invites her viewers to gaze at her cervix with a flashlight through a speculum she inserts into her vagina. Sprinkle's performance crystallises the aspects of lower, vulgar, bodily artistic expression, which is so heavily repudiated by the historical ethos of high art culture. But now, what grounds are there for rejecting her performance as aesthetically illegitimate? Is the performance to be condemned on the basis that it privileges bodily expression, unrestraint and autonomy over reflection and contemplation? We have seen from Bourdieu's thesis of cultural distinctions that there are no objective cultural reasons for condemning a piece of art on the basis of its bodily, pleasure-oriented interests. Sprinkle's art invites criticism due to its illicit nature; it is art which involves pleasure of the senses; it is sensually immediate; it pushes the viewer towards under-distancing; it deviates from what those in positions of aesthetic power identify as culturally valuable. However, there are no objective grounds for condemning Sprinkle's performance on the basis that it is bodily and directed towards pleasurable bodily response. Certainly, her performance is sexy, alluring, pushes ones towards under-distancing. However, we have seen that these qualities of an object of art are only illegitimate, not worthy of artistic praise in the context of opposing qualities being privileged. Only if aesthetic contemplation, proper distancing and reflection are critical aspects of objects of art, are sexiness, raw pleasure and bodily response disturbing and illegitimate components of them.

We can make use of Sprinkle's performance pieces by investigating what, if any, artistic worth or condemnation can be ascribed to striptease. The common view of striptease appears to suggest that it is pornographic, its main aim is to arouse, titillate and therefore is outside the realm of the aesthetic. However, strippers identify themselves as performance artists, they consider the process of stripping to be artistic and any one strip is for them an artistic performance. Is stripping a legitimate form of artistic expression? Or does striptease reside outside the sphere of aesthetic appreciation and consumption? If it is allowed that Sprinkle's performance pieces are legitimate artistic expressions, despite their bodily, sensuous appeal, then it seems that there may be grounds for defending the view that stripping is a form of art, not merely a type of pornography. Certainly, it seems that the stripper's performance should not be considered non-art, merely on the basis of its attention to sexual arousal and eroticism. If stripping is non-art, then something more than a process of cultural distinction, and the possession of power, is required to show that it is not art. If stripping holds no artistic value and deserves aesthetic condemnation, something more than the usual appropriation of cultural values is needed to show that this is the case. But now, one might allow that stripping is a legitimate form of artistic expression, however one may also hold that it is not good art. Perhaps one might hold that striptease lacks many of the necessary and sufficient conditions required of a piece of art to warrant viewing it as good art. However, here it must be acknowledged that this type of concern can be lodged against any type of art. If this particular worry has relevance to all objects of art, then the concern is of a global nature. It is not specific to stripping and hence is of no assistance whatsoever to the aesthete who isolates stripping from other forms of artistic expression and condemns all of its instances on the basis of their lack of artistic merit. If the notion of necessary and sufficient conditions were allowed, then each striptease would need to be carefully considered and appraised in relation to these necessary and sufficient conditions. It would not do to suggest that striptease, generally, is bad art. This is as plausible as suggesting that oil on canvas in bad art. In addition to this, it seems that the necessary and sufficient conditions which have been alluded to here and which determine whether an object warrants artistic applaud, are culturally determined. These rules and restrictions are governed and implemented by those in positions of power who, by their denial of "other" necessary and sufficient conditions, distinguish between good and bad art. Once again, there are no objective, culturally removed, criteria for determining whether an object of art is good or bad.

Domestic Animals Pictures Biography

They found Hunter S. Thompson's suicide note, and it twists our moral telescopes back into the focus we had when we first heard that he'd shot himself in the head.

You recall that on Sunday, Feb. 20, when he took himself out, we wanted to think that it was a .45-caliber hara-kiri, an act of honor by a 67-year-old cultural hero who hadn't written much major work for 30 years, and now faced old age with a broken leg, a hip replacement, an addiction to alcohol and a habitual fondness for whatever else would light his crazed Christmas tree of a mind.

But no, we quickly learned that it wasn't that pretty. He killed himself while talking on the phone with his wife, Anita. In the house with him were his son Juan, and his grandson. Not so honorable.

You're supposed to go out behind the woodshed, face the existential solitude and let your loving survivors find you later.

Oh, well. His ashes were fired into the sky near his home in Woody Creek, Colo., on Aug. 20 with lots of fireworks. That seemed to bring us some kind of suitably mad "closure," as the TV shrinks say.

Now, Rolling Stone magazine, for which he wrote a lot of his best stuff in the '70s, has published a note he wrote to Anita four days before he killed himself in the kitchen.

The note doesn't make you feel any better about his timing with the phone call and the son and grandson hearing the gun go off, but it turns out that our first, and nobler, explanations had some truth to them after all.

"No More Games. No More Bombs. No More Walking. No More Fun. No More Swimming. 67. That is 17 years past 50. 17 more than I needed or wanted. Boring. I am always bitchy. No Fun -- for anybody. 67. You are getting Greedy. Act your old age. Relax -- This won't hurt."

With a sort of cryptic, ironic, metaphorical hilarity, he took a black marker and titled the note: "Football Season Is Over."

Douglas Brinkley, a historian and Thompson's "official biographer," had a more mundane explanation for the title. In his piece on the Rolling Stone Web site, he wrote: "An avid NFL fan, Hunter traditionally embraced the Super Bowl in January as the high-water mark of his year. February, by contrast, was doldrums time."

How bizarre that Thompson, who despised all that was official, and spent his life writing his own stone-loon autobiography, has an "official biographer."

Those who would like to think that Thompson killed himself over something more crucial than professional football
